What paperwork is required for a mortgage?

If you are looking to buy property, getting a mortgage can help you get your dream home in Spain. A mortgage application is a lengthy process and you will be required to meet certain criteria and present a lot of paperwork. The amount the lender will be willing to give you will depend on your financial circumstances which include your financial, real estate and other assets, your annual income, monthly expenses and other financial commitments. Every country has different regulations when it comes to mortgages, but most banks and lenders will usually ask for similar documents.

You will definitely need to submit proof of ID, such as a passport, driving licence or similar as well as your most recent bank statements. Other paperwork can include your personal tax returns, payslips, credit files, annual debt statements and in some cases your employment contract and references. The lender will also be interested in analysing what expenses you make monthly and yearly through your bank statements. There might be additional paperwork, so make sure you do your research and get all the information you need from the bank.
